PTA

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a partnership between parents and educators who strive to enhance student learning and enrich the lives of the students within the school. It is also a forum for parents to obtain knowledge and voice their opinions about what is happening in their school. When you join Montclair PTA, you also join the California state and national PTA. Membership numbers count when PTA representatives lobby for support from Oakland Unified School District, the California Legislature, and in Congress.

Montclair has an excellent teaching staff and learning environment. We also have an active and committed PTA. As a community, we create a stimulating and successful school for our children. The PTA is an integral part of the school and we welcome your involvement. The PTA has been a part of Montclair School since 1926. This school is what it is today in part because of the dedication of parents. It’s the PTA that has brought the library, and enhanced PE classes and their respective teachers to the school, as well as vocal music and art. It has been parents who have erected the school gardens through the COMPOST program and have developed a first class emergency plan through the Health and Safety Committee.

Everyone — parents, educators, students and other citizens active in their schools and communities—is invited to join our not-for-profit organization.

• Our Montclair PTA is the fundraising force behind all the local enhancements to the school.
• In addition to providing the funds requested by the SSC for education support across the school, the PTA also funds improvements to the school grounds and facilities, pays for class field trips, and provides additional classroom supplies as requested by the staff.
• Fundamental to achieving the fundraising goals is the Montclair School Community and the PTA leads on events throughout the year to foster strong community engagement with both the school and your children's education.
• The goal of the Montclair PTA can simply be stated as to build a community that enables and supports the delivery of an excellent educational experience for our children.

For Your Child. Years of research have proven that children do better in school when their parents are involved, both at home and in school. Grades are higher. Self-esteem grows.  

To Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in our school. You’ll meet other parents and teachers, build rapport, discuss issues that are on your mind, and have a voice.

To Be Part of the Solution. Montclair PTA plays an important role in fundraising to support curriculum-based programs including Library, Music, Art, Drama, Computer Science and other enrichment programs no longer covered by state or local funding. All of this is vital to our school’s—and your child’s—success.

The PTA General Assembly meeting convenes on the 3rd Wednesday of each month during the school year from 6:30-7:30pm in the cafeteria. Free childcare is provided at the school for those who sign up in advance; sign ups are sent via Konstella ahead of the meetings.

Some meetings will also be accessible by Zoom. This will be announced ahead of each meeting.

Attendees do not need to be PTA members – all are welcome! – however, membership is required to vote on issues.

All who are interested are encouraged to join the board – no experience necessary! Our nominating committee begins their process each spring. If you’d like to be considered for a role, contact pta-parliamentarian@montclairschool.com. Board positions are normally finalized by April/May, but there might be open positions at any time.
